About FOP
History
Many years ago, on a server far, far away, there was a space called The Farthest Outpost. It was a space where those who admired and respected the work of a talented actor could share thoughts, hopes and news about that actor, and incidentally about many other things. Like all such good things, it came to an end.
This current space aims to revive the ethos of that time, although the shadow of the actor is no longer here, save that they brought together some of the people that you will find here and that deserves at least a hat-tip. Thank you Viggo Mortensen.
Another group of people got together and shared a somewhat similar experience, based on a shared interest in another actor - or, more accurately, a character he portrayed. That group produced two themed cookery books that raised some thousands of pounds for charity and, like The Farthest Outpost, resulted in life-long friendships. The character was Richard Sharpe, the main character in Bernard Cornwell's series of books, played on screen by Sean Bean, who also merits a hat-tip. For the record, the books were "Sharpe's Chefs" and "Sharpe's Chefs on Campaign".
Now
It seems like the commercially-run social media are going to the dogs - indeed, some have already arrived and made themselves comfortable. A number of people voiced an interest in a safe, ad-free, algorithm-free space where they could converse with like-minded people and be creative. There are those who would bleat "Echo chamber!", without understanding what that actually is. But they are those whom we want to avoid and will do so on our own terms.
The Forums
These are the major forums you'll find here. Most of the names are, hopefully, self-explanatory:
