Board rules

These rules are intended to set boundaries on The Farthest Outpost. The aim is to specify, as simply as possible, what is acceptable here and what is not. Everybody that opens an account here has to accept these rules, by checking a tick box, before the signup process can be completed.

  1. Introduction

Rules on a board such as this are a necessary evil. Disagreements on what can/cannot/should/should not be posted, not to mention where./how/etc. are inevitable. The aim of these rules is to set some limits/standards/baselines/whatever for judging, shall we say, marginal behaviour.

It may seem that the moderators are unelected dictators and have unlimited power. That is correct. This is a private space and those that run it decide how it works. From previous experience, we know that this is the only method that works. Cogent, reasoned expression of disagreement with rules and/or suggestions on how they may be improved are always welcome and can be openly discussed.

Before posting in a forum, please read the guidelines for that forum. If you don't know where to post something, PM an outline (or the whole post) to a moderator who will advise you. On no account post the same thing in more than one forum.

As of this date, 4th May 2025, the rules are a draft. #
  2. What you can do

The forum titles should be a good guide to this.

If you want to advertise a business - be it your own one-man-band craft store or the corporation you work for - you will find suitable threads in appropriate forums. Please post such things *only* in those threads. If they're found anywhere else they will almost certainly be summarily deleted. I say "almost" as there could be exceptions - e.g., announcing a craft fair and adding that you'll have a stall there is usually OK. #
  3. What you can't do

No bullying. We're all adults here and know what bullying is. If it comes to it, what constitutes bullying is up to the moderators.

No racism, LGBTQ-ism, anti-Semitism (or anti-any other religion) or nationalism. Note that justified criticism is not the same as being simply "anti". Again, the moderators will decide where lines are drawn.

Supporters of Trump, Putin and any other fascist dictator - or fascist party (e.g. Reform UK, AfD) are not welcome and, if inadvertently allowed in, will be summarily deleted without warning, blocked, and all of their contributions permanently deleted. Cries of "echo chamber" are ignored. #
